I am honored to present African American WW II veteran, Mr. Alexander Jefferson who is a Tuskegee Airman. Alex flew one of the best fighter planes ever engineered the P-51 Mustang. He flew out of Foggia Italy with the 15th Air Force. Mr. Jefferson was shot down over Toulon France in the summer of 1944 becoming a POW in Stalag Luft #3 which is where the “The Great Escape ” took place a few months before Alex was there. They made a Hollywood movie about it in 1963 starring James Garner and Steve McQueen. Alex tells about being a POW. He also endured a forced march in brutally cold weather to escape the oncoming Russian Army. When Alex was freed he heard about some camp that was near where he was by Munich Germany called “DACHAU” so he borrowed a Jeep to drive over and see what this “DACHAU” was. He vividly describes the horrors of this infamous death camp. ALEXANDER WILL BE AT PROGRAM FOR Q & A SESSION.
