Fred Bahlau was awarded two Silver stars for gallantry in combat, as well as two field promotions to 2nd Lt and 1st Lt. He parachuted into and fought June 6th (D-Day) in Normandy, Holland and was completely surrounded by the German Army at Bastogne Belgium in the coldest winter in 50 yrs.
