Lt. Col. Alexander Jefferson

Alexander will be present at Larry Martin’s World War II In Their Own Words presentation at the Baldwin Public Library at 300 W. Merrill St Birmingham Michigan to do a Q & A with the audience after we view a DVD interview that Larry did with Alex in 2012.  Alex is a Tuskegee Airman who flew 18 combat missions aboard one of our finest fighter planes the P-51 D before being shot down in August of 1944 over Toulon France.  He was sent to Poland as a POW to the famous Stalag Luft 3 which is the setting for the famous 1963 movie starring Steve McQueen and James Garner.  He was a POW for about 8 months.   He was forced to march for four days in 20 degrees below zero to keep away from the advancing Russian Army.  He marched back into Munich Germany.  When he was freed by Gen. George Patton’s Third Army he had just heard of a camp called Dachau near where he was just freed so he got a Jeep to go see for himself what the place called Dachau was.  He said you could smell it for over a mile and he could only stand it for about one hour because of what he saw and smelled.  Come early to see all of Larry and Alexander’s large collection of WW II memorabilia.
