Papernik, Tom

Tom Papernik USMC 1920-Aug.2000      Entered to computer   August 6 2018

 

I interviewed Tom in early 2000 at his home in Lansing Michigan.  Tom enlisted into the Marine Corps in Sept. 1942 was discharged from the Corps in july of 1945.

He went to “Boot Camp” in San Diego California then attended Scout/Sniper training at Odefray California. From California he went to New Zealand in March of 1943. He was assigned to Third Marine Division K battery Artillary with his first battle at Bouginville in the Solomon Islands where he was hit by artillary or mortar injuring his arm that he had a large scar to his dying day in 2000.  He went to a hospital ship then to Johnson Island, Hawaii, Seattle Washington and finally to the hospital at Great Lakes Ill.
