Sigrid Howard Berlin Germany 1927-1947

Sigrid Burkhardt Howard

Listen as Sigrid gives us a view of what it was like to grow up as a young woman in Germany during Hitler’s time in power.  Sigrid was in the “Young Girls League” which was the equilivent of the “Hitler Youth” for the boys.  Sigrid says that anyone who thinks that they could not be “brainwashed” is wrong, she was ready to turn her parents into the Gestapo if they said anything about Hitler.  They could have been sent to a concentration camp.  Both of her grandparents were killed in bombing raids  by the American 8th Air Force.  She shot and killed two Russian soldiers in Berlin in 1945.  Sigrid was also attacked and spit at in America after she married US soldier and came to America because so many Americans had lost loved ones during the war.  Her parents never believed there was a “Holocaust”.  Sigrid was repeatedly raped by Russian soldiers, but had a abortion because her parents knew someone who would do one.

What  horrible things for a young girl to have to see and experience.

Sigrid will be present for the program to do a Q and A
