Sigrid Burkhardt Howard

Sigrid was born in Berlin Germany in 1927.  She will tell what it was like to live in Germany during Hitler’s time in power as well as the horror of the bombing of Berlin by both America and England that killed both of her grandparents.  She was also in the equilivent of the Hitler Youth for girls.  Sigrid tells of being fully prepared to turn her parents into the Gestapo if they said anything bad about Hitler.   Sigrid was a young girl of 17 or 18 when the Russians came into Berlin for the Battle of Berlin with the death of a estimated 400,000  people.  The rape and pillaging that happened from about  early May of 1945 to July 1945 was unimaginable and Sigrid was right in the middle of all of this.
